Veteran’s Day is soon approaching and there are several companies who want to thank our veterans by providing them with discounts or a free meal. To those companies offering veterans a free meal or discount, we give a collective thanks.

Applebees – free meal, Thursday, Nov. 11: Military veterans and active-duty Service Members will be able to eat free at any Applebee’s across the U.S. on Veteran’s Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010. There will be 7 entrées to choose from. Guests will be asked to show one or more of the following as proof of service: U.S. Uniform Services ID Card (active/reserve/retired), Current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), Photograph in uniform, Wearing uniform, Veterans Organization Card (e.g., American Legion and VFW), or DD214. McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants – free lunch or dinner, Sunday Nov 7: McCormick & Schmick’s is celebrating their 12th annual Veteran’s Appreciation Event on Sunday, November 7. Veterans will be able to choose a complimentary lunch or dinner entrée on Sunday, November 7. Some of the special offerings include Cashew-Crusted Tilapia, Grilled Atlantic Salmon, Seafood Fettuccini Alfredo and Cedar-Planked Salmon. Eligible veterans include anyone who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. Veterans must provide proof of military service in the form of an active, retired, or reserve ID card, VA Card, VFW Card, American Legion Card, discharge papers, DD214 or other Veterans ID. Golden Corral – free meal, Monday Nov. 15: The 9th annual Golden Corral Military Appreciation dinner will be held on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 5 pm to 9 pm in all Golden Corral Restaurants nationwide. The free “thank you” dinner is available to any person who has ever served in the United States Military. If you are a veteran, retired, currently serving, in the National Guard or Reserves, you are invited to participate in Golden Corral’s Military Appreciation Monday dinner. Chili’s – free meal, Thursday, Nov. 11. Chili’s is offering all military veterans past and present their choice of one of 6 meals. This offer is available during business hours on November 11, 2010 at participating Chili’s in the U.S. only. Dine-in from limited menu only; beverages and gratuity not included. Veterans and active duty military simply show proof of military service. See flier for more information.

Hooters – free Meal, Thursday, Nov. 11. Hooter’s is serving up a free meal to military veterans all day on Veterans Day. Offer good for all veterans and active duty military personnel. Choose one of the new specialty items on the Hooter’s menu. America’s Incredible Pizza Company, Thursday, Nov. 11. Two Missouri locations are offering thanks to our nation’s veterans by offering a free meal from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 2010. This free dinner is a way of saying thank you and includes an unlimited buffet and drink at either location in Saint Louis or Saint Peters, Missouri. Note: America’s Incredible Pizza Company operates franchises, so this offer may only be limited to the locations listed.

• Texas Roadhouse – free meal, Thursday, Nov. 11. Offer varies by location; our local Texas Roadhouse is offering a free meal from opening until 4pm. Other locations may vary in offer, hours, or availability. Call ahead to your local restaurant for more information.
• Krispy Kreme – Free doughnut. Available only at participating Krispy Kreme stores. Offer available to all active-duty, retirees & veterans on Thursday November 11th. Be sure to call ahead to verify your local Krispy Kreme is participating.
• T.G.I. Friday’s – Buy one get one free Nov 11-14. At participating locations for anyone with an old or current military ID. November 11-14. Hat tip to Military Wives Saving.
• Subway – Free Six Inch Sub. Many subway locations offer a free six inch sub to military veterans on Veteran’s Day. However, Subway restaurants are franchises, so this offer may only be available in select locations. Please contact your local Subway for more information regarding Veteran’s day specials.
• Boston’s Gourmet Pizza – free individual pizza. All military veterans and active duty military personnel can enjoy an FREE individual one topping pizza this Veteran’s Day 5-7 PM! There are two Boston’s Gourmet Pizza & Sports Bar locations in the Denver area. The Highlands Ranch location is just off of C-470 and Broadway, at 53 W. Centennial Blvd. The newly re-opened Parker location is just off of C-470 and Parker Road at 19340 E Cottonwood Dr.
• Barmuda – free meal. Barmuda is offering a free meal to all active duty members and veteran’s in all restaurants. More information.

Home Depot and Lowes Coupon Updates

Update: Home Depot and Lowes 10% Military Discount Available Everyday.

Home Depot: The Home Depot(R) is offering all active duty personnel, reservists, retired military, veterans and their families a 10 percent discount off their purchases in honor of Veteran’s Day. The offer is valid on purchases of up to $2,000 for a maximum of $200 and is available at The Home Depot stores, The Home Depot Design Center locations, Yardbirds and EXPO Design Center(R) locations. The 10% discount is available everyday for active duty and retirees, but not veterans. Home Depot makes this offer available to all veterans on most military holidays.

Lowes: Lowe’s Companies, Inc. will offer all active, reserve, honorably discharged, retired military personnel and their immediate family members a 10 percent discount on in-store U.S. purchases made during the Veterans Day holiday. The discount is available Nov. 6 – Nov. 11. The discount is available on in-stock and special order purchases up to $5,000. To qualify, individuals must present a valid military ID or other proof of service. Excluded from the discount are sales via Lowes.com, previous sales, and purchases of services or gift cards. Like Home Depot, Lowes offers this discount daily to active duty military members, but not to veterans. However, they extend the offer to military veterans on military holidays.

Free Park Admission for Veterans Day

Colonial Williamsburg Free Admission. Colonial Williamsburg honors America’s Veterans with a procession down Duke of Gloucester Street, 4:30 p.m., beginning at the Capitol. The parade culminates in a public ceremony, with militia and cannon crew firing volleys in recognition of those who serve. Hear Colonial Williamsburg’s Fifes and Drums, and speakers from past and present. Active duty military, guard and reservists, retirees, veterans and their dependents enjoy free admission passes on the following dates: Nov. 6-11.

Knotts Berry Farm Military Tribute Days – Free Admission. Knott’s Berry Farm has an annual Military Tribute where they offer military members past and present by offering free park admission. This year the Military Tribute Days run from November 1 – 25 November (Thanksgiving Day). Veterans or current serving military personnel plus one guest get in FREE with proper ID presented at Knott’s turnstile (DD214, Veterans Administration Hospital ID or Active Military Service ID). Purchase up to six additional tickets for just $15 each. More info.

Fee Free Day at National Parks. To honor America’s service men and women, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today announced that areas managed by the department would not charge entrance fees on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Over 100 national Parks will be participating in this event. More information.

Free Admission Anheuser-Busch Parks for Military Members

Anheuser-Busch Parks. Anheuser-Busch Parks offers Active Duty Service Members free admission for them and up to 3 dependents to any of their parks once a year. Throughout 2010, members of the military and as many as three direct dependents may enter SeaWorld, Busch Gardens or Sesame Place parks with a single-day complimentary admission. The Here’s to the Heroes program is only available to Any active duty, activated or drilling reservist, or National Guardsman. Bed and Breakfast for Vets

In the second year of the program, B&Bs for Vets has organized over 800 participating Bed and Breakfasts and Inns across the US and Canada will be offering veterans a free night’s stay on November 10th, the night before Veterans Day. This offer is available to both active duty military members and veterans with ID, but space is limited. Free Hugo® Canes for Veterans.

Sam’s Club® locations nationwide will distribute 36,000 Hugo® canes free of charge on November 10th, 11th and 12th, 2010 to U.S. military veterans in need of mobility assistance. Today's Daily Article of Interest (WINTER BABY CHECKLIST) and I love it for the winter months!

Essentials

	Snow suit or heavy bunting	Don't rely on a heavy blanket to protect your baby from the elements. A warm piece that fits over her regular clothes is ideal when you'll be moving her outdoors. This should not, however, be used as her sole outfit; instead, dress your infant in layers and check her body temperature often. "Your baby is overheated if he is sweating, has damp hair, a heat rash, rapid breathing, or is restless," says the University of Minnesota SIDS Center.
	Hats, mittens, and foot coverings	A knit hat and mittens will protect your infant from wind and chilly temperatures. Once indoors, these items can be removed to avoid overheating. Outfitting your little one with soft, warm baby booties will also prevent heat from escaping through his extremities.
	Sweater (2-3)	A staple item of any baby's wardrobe, a sweater is an ideal layering piece. Look for a soft knit with easy buttons or snaps that will fit comfortably over her long-sleeved bodysuits.
	Blanket	Lightweight receiving blankets may not provide the warmth needed during colder months. A fleece cover retains heat while protecting your baby from winter elements including snow, sleet, and wind.
	Footed sleepers and sleep sacks (3-5)	Bundling your baby isn't safe at night, when he can easily overheat. A footed sleeper or sleep sack allows him to stay warm and comfortable when temperatures drop, with the added convenience of not having to sort through layers to change that middle-of-the-night diaper.

Recommended

	Car seat cover and heavy stroller blanket	Keep your baby warm and toasty while out and about. Your little one will need an added layer of warmth and protection to enjoy family outdoor activities.
	Moisturizing lotion or body oil	When purchasing skin products for your baby, look for non-perfumed lotions and oils specially suited to her sensitive skin. Seek out natural, soothing, and emollient ingredients such as almond, olive, coconut, or palm oil; calendula; or marigold. Most pediatricians recommend avoiding antibacterial soaps, baths, and shampoos. Also avoid any baby products containing artificial colors, allergenic or irritating preservatives (such as quaternium 15, imidazolidinyl urea, or parabens), diethanolamine (DEA) or triethanolamine (TEA), and sodium lauryl sulfate or cocamide-DEA.
	Home and car emergency kits	As inclement weather sets in, it's wise to have a preparedness kit ready in your home and car. In your car, you should have a first aid kit, portable radio, a flash light and extra batteries, ice scraper, a shovel and a bag of kitty litter (great for getting a stuck tire out of a snow bank), a warm change of clothes and shoes for each member of your family, extra hats, socks and mittens, a charged mobile phone, an emergency blanket and/or warm wool blankets, water, ready-to-eat-formula and a bottle for bottle-fed babies, and snacks. Home kits should include a fire extinguisher and first aid kit, set aside a shelf for matches and candles, an oil lamp and oil, flashlight and batteries, extra blankets, and winter clothing gear. Always keep a couple extra gallons of drinking water and a collection of canned goods or pantry items that don't require cooking on hand. Winter storms can knock out electricity; if your family requires electricity for heating and cooking, you'll need to be prepared.
	Hand sanitizer	Keeping yourself healthy is a vital part of caring for your baby. Hand sanitizer helps kill those nasty germs that lurk year-round, but whose effects are so devastating in winter months. While washing with soap and warm water is ideal, antibacterial gels help reduce your and your little one's exposure to myriad contagions.

Niceties

	Sunscreen	You've probably heard it before—the sun's rays are just as potent during the chilly months of winter as they are in the summer. In fact, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has published information on two recent studies which determined that, for individuals at higher altitudes, there is actually an increased risk of sunburn in winter. According to dermatologist Dr. Darrel S. Rigel, MD, "snow reflects more than 80 percent of the sun's rays, even on cloudy days." That's why it is highly important that everyone wear a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) with an SPF of at least 15, every time they go outdoors. Even if you're not in a snowy climate, you'll benefit your baby and yourself by applying sunscreen before you head outdoors.
	Humidifier	Dry winter air can wreak havoc on baby's skin. An inexpensive humidifier helps keep moisture in and can eliminate or reduce chapped skin, especially around your infant's nasal passages and mouth. Never place a humidifier next to your baby's crib, and if you choose one that emits warm steam, make sure that no little ones can reach the steam source, which can burn their sensitive skin.
	Fleece pad and flannel crib sheets	While you should not cover your baby with a blanket until she is at least one year old, a fleece pad and flannel crib sheets are a great way to safely add warmth overnight. Look for pads and sheets that fit snugly over her crib mattress, to avoid an increased risk of SIDS.
	Room thermometer	While the thermostat in your house may tell you it's a warm 70 degrees, your baby's room can be significantly warmer or cooler, depending upon its location within the home. The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, which has seen increased cases of SIDS during winter months, suggests that baby's room be kept at a moderate 65 degrees.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Autumn's chill is in the air as nature reminds us it's time for most Americans to turn the clock back.

Officially the change to standard time occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday. Most folks will set their clocks Saturday night.

Remember, it's fall back an hour. Otherwise, you'll be an hour early on Sunday for church, golf or whatever. Residents of Hawaii, most of Arizona and some U.S. territories don't have to change since they did not observe daylight-saving time.

Public safety officials say this is also a good time to put a new battery in the smoke alarm, no matter where you live.

Daylight saving time returns at 2 a.m. local time the second Sunday in March.

Making Christmas Ornaments!

I found this interesting article today about how to make ornaments. I had no clue that they could be this easy. So, here's how to do it. Please know that these are not my kids and not my article but I thought it was really neat.

Christmas Ornaments with Kids Tutorial

Yeah, it’s a tad early for thinking about Christmas; but do you want to do something fun with the kids? Okay, time to fess up – I’M the one who really likes making these Christmas ornaments! We’ve made these a few times over the years for our own Christmas tree and for gifts to others. It’s rather like that Spin-Art for kids, which I also love.

Supplies:

• Clear glass Christmas bulbs
• A variety of acrylic paints
• A couple egg cartons

I found these at our local Hobby Lobby store in a set of twelve for $3.99, but I scored big at the 50% off sale that day. I believe you could probably find them at Michael’s or A.C. Moore or whatever your local craft store is.

Remove the ornament tops pulling out both the wire and the “lid”. Give your kids the bottles of acrylic paint, and let them squirt colors inside the bulb to their heart’s content. Twist and swirl the ornie once they have all the colors inside to be sure to cover the entire inside. You do need a bit of paint to get it to slide around and get good coverage.

Having a wash cloth or rag down helps keep the ornie from getting away from little ones as they work.

When they’ve finished getting it all swirled around, hold your ornament over the sink while the water is running (if you don’t mind washing acrylics down your drain anyway), and let the majority of the paint run down the drain. When most of it’s out, set the ornament upside down in an egg carton to let the remaining paint slowly drip out.

If you don’t drain them out a first time somewhere else, this is the kind of mess you could end up with in your egg carton!

We let ours dry for at least a couple days in the egg cartons to be extra sure they’re dry. When they are finished drying, simply put the “lid” and hanger back in. Don’t forget to keep the box they came in for storage later.

Ready for the Holidays!

Tonight my website designer Merideth revamped the site to reflect a Christmas theme. I think she did an awesome job and she added blogger, so this means that I am going to start blogging.

To be honest my grammar is not always to par and I do frequently make typos but this should be fun and at least I am being honest that I am not a writer :)

But I am a mom who has three children ages 15, 4 and almost 2. My youngest will turn 2 on Christmas Eve and of course Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year and her birth was supposed to happen after Christmas because I didn't want her to be upset being born on Christmas day or even Eve.

You've heard the stories of children who were born on these days and hated it, feeling a little short on gifts since many Christmas and Birthday gifts are combined. But I guess she had other plans and didn't want to miss Santa. So, now we celebrate her birthday officially on Christmas Eve and It's great because a lot of items are on sale :) The bakery is open so I can get the cake, family is always together, there school that day so there are many benefits at this time.

But anyways, I hope that you like the baby boutique and I will be updating this blog as often as I can. Hopefully I will have a follower or two. LOL
